Do You Want To Go To The Store With Me?

I love going to the grocery store. And I love taking people with me. I almost pulled out my phone to take pictures of funny things, and then I remembered that I am fasting from Facebook.

My parents were not extravagant people. For fun, we went out for car rides and stopped for ice cream or donuts. We went to the park for picnics when I was young. And we were very often in the grocery store, even if there was no reason to buy anything. My dad just liked to look at funny things.

I guess I'm my father's daughter.

Often, people go into the store for something on the list or something they already knew they wanted. We might ignore all the stuff we weren't intending. But sometimes, if you're not in a big hurry, it's fun to look at brands you've never noticed before. There are many regional and international foods I have never considered. There are some fruits and vegetables I never knew existed.

Sometimes I wonder whether all the stuff in the store is actually purchased by people or whether most people stick to the usual things. Like, have you noticed there are at least 25 kinds of Oreos? And there's an Oreo coffee creamer. Crazy, right? (I'm sorry, I really had to work that in!)

And then there are all kinds of things made by folks you've never heard of. Or maybe they're only obscure because I don't buy them. I can't assume everyone likes the same things I like. God made us all different.

Do you like to go to the store? There's a wide variety of tastes and products to meet those tastes. When I'm not in a hurry, I enjoy that we can consider God's variety even in someplace as common as the grocery.
